British professional tennis player Ryan Peniston joins me to discuss the journey and sacrifices behind his career.
At just 13 years old, Ryan left his family and moved to France to train full-time. Five years later, he continued his development in the United States at the University of Memphis, meaning he spent nine formative years living away from home while pursuing his tennis dream.
Ryan reflects on whether he would make the same decision today, his rise to a career-high ranking of world No. 123 and his memorable victory over Casper Ruud at Queen’s. He also speaks openly about the injuries that have interrupted his progress, the mental and financial pressures facing players outside the top 100, and his recovery from a lower-back stress fracture.
The conversation also covers Wimbledon, college tennis, his work with Young Lives vs Cancer and his first steps into commentary and punditry.
Hope you enjoy it,
Fabio
